Vermont State Nurses' Foundation, Inc. (VSNF)
The Vermont State Nurses' Foundation, Inc. (VSNF) is a non-profit organization with a mission to:
Develop public awareness about nursing. The VSNF recognizes and publicizes the caring efforts of individual nurses through the annual Honor a Nurse Campaign. Nurses are nominated by employers, colleagues, families and clients for their excellence in caring. Donations are made to the VSNF Scholarship Fund in the name of the nurse being honored. The nurses are then honored at the annual convention of the Vermont State Nurses Association. Members of the Board of Trustees attend the annual Legislative Day at the Vermont State House. Contributions of nurses to the health care of Vermonters are discussed with legislators. Provide scholarships for nursing education.Three members of the Foundation Board serve as a scholarship committee. They review applications for the Arthur L. Davis Publishing Agency Scholarship and the Pat and Frank Allen Scholarship. Selection is made through a blind process based upon the criteria listed on the application. The Arthur L. Davis Publishing Agency Scholarship is an award of $1,000.00 and the Pat and Frank Allen Scholarship is an award of $1,500.00. Both scholarships are presented annually at the Vermont State Nurses’ Association’s Convention. Each grant can be used toward any college expense (e.g. tuition, room or books) but funds will be dispersed directly to the institution. Publish works by nurses. The VSNF published "Voices of Vermont Nurses; A History of Nursing in Vermont from 1941-1996". The VSNF also distributes the book. The Foundation requested that all Vermont's 200 libraries purchase the book. Every nurse should have a copy of this book because it is a history that many nurses share. Sales of the book support the VSNF's mission. Requests for purchase of the book for $25.00 plus $3.98 for handling and mailing should be directed to the Vermont State Nurses Foundation, 100 Dorset Street, Suite #13, South Burlington, VT 05403 Support nursing research. The VSNF supports the Annual Nursing Research and Evidence Based Practice Symposium. The Symposium highlights nursing research, evidence-based practice and quality improvement projects done by Vermont nurses. The Symposium is a critical to the development of nursing knowledge and dissemination of that knowledge as well as measuring the effective of nursing practice. Raise money for these projects. There is an endless list of demands on your charitable contributions but nurses cannot be the all that they want to be for patients without community support. The VSNF asks for your help. As a non-profit organization, donations to this Foundation are tax deductible. Currently the focus of fund raising efforts is to support registered nurses who are seeking additional academic preparation in their nursing careers. As the health care environment becomes more complex nurses Vermont nurses recognize the need for advanced education. Quality health care can only come about when there is an adequate supply of nurses with education appropriate to the roles they are fulfilling. Providing quality health care is a serious obligation to society and the VSNF is out there working with you, doing our part to make a difference. Who are we?
